GLASGOW HIGHLIFE BAND

Scotland has had many years of links with Africa and the African Diaspora which today has resulted in many people of African origins settling in Scotland making Scotland become an emerging African Diaspora. The cultural heritage that this encapsulates reflects some of these links in, Education, Trade and Industry Religion and the Arts.

There is a new musical Music movement evolving in Scotland today adding to the cultural diversity of this beautiful country which has a history of producing some of the best talents the world has had. We at Pan African arts Scotland have brought together a group of talented individuals to bring the rich West African musical genre ‘Highlife’ to Scotland.

Highlife is a musical genre that originated In Ghana in the 1900s and spread to Sierra Leone, Nigeria and other West African countries by 1920. It is very popular in Liberia and all of English- speaking West Africa. PAAS new resident Glasgow Highlife Band brings this West African cultural treasure onto the Scottish music scene.

The Glasgow Highlife Band captures the vibrancy and richness of the blend of traditional West  African instruments and the guitar, combined with a layer of sweet harmonies of female and male voices in songs that bring you to your feet to dance.
The band plays a combination of classic highlife song as well as originals written here in Scotland.
